Measurements and live data

Parameter / measurementMeasuredExpected
Parasitic drain after the modules went to sleep420 mAbelow about 50 mA
Charging voltage at 2,000 rpm14.3 V13.8–14.7 V

Tests performed

  1. Drain measured with a clamp meter after 40 minutes420 mA, steady
  2. Voltage drop across each fuse with the fuse box openClear drop only across the fuse feeding the interior and glovebox lights
  3. Circuit checkedGlovebox light switch stuck, lamp on with the lid closed

Solution

Root cause

Glovebox light switch stuck closed, keeping the lamp on with the lid shut.

Repair

Replaced the glovebox light switch. Drain after sleep now 22 mA. Battery recharged and tested.

Lesson learned

Measure the voltage drop across fuses instead of pulling them: pulling a fuse wakes modules and restarts the sleep timer.
