Pressure converter: bar, kPa, psi, mbar, inHg
Scan tools, gauges and service data use different units. Boost is often shown as absolute pressure (including the atmosphere), gauges show pressure above atmosphere.
This value is
| Unit | Gauge | Absolute |
|---|---|---|
| bar | 1.000 | 2.013 |
| kPa | 100.000 | 201.325 |
| psi | 14.504 | 29.200 |
| mbar | 1,000 | 2,013 |
| kg/cm² | 1.020 | 2.053 |
| inHg | 29.530 | 59.451 |
| atm | 0.987 | 1.987 |
Absolute = gauge + 1.013 bar (standard atmosphere at sea level).
How to use it in a diagnosis
- Enter a value and choose its unit.
- Choose whether it is absolute or gauge pressure; the converter adds or removes one atmosphere (1.013 bar) as needed.
Questions mechanics ask
What is the difference between absolute and gauge pressure?
Absolute pressure is measured from a perfect vacuum, gauge pressure from the surrounding air pressure. At sea level, absolute = gauge + about 1.013 bar (101.3 kPa).
How many psi is 1 bar?
1 bar is about 14.5 psi, 100 kPa, 1,000 mbar and 29.5 inHg.
