SensorsSeverity High: diagnose before driving on

P0335Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit

What it means

The ECU sees no usable signal from the crankshaft position sensor. Without it the engine can't run (or runs on the camshaft signal only on some cars).

Symptoms

  • Engine cuts out while driving, sometimes restarts after cooling down
  • Long crank or no start
  • Rev counter drops to zero when it cuts out

Common causes

  • Faulty or dirty crankshaft sensor (metal debris on the tip)
  • Corroded connector or damaged harness
  • Damaged reluctor ring or wrong air gap
  • Loose sensor or wrong sensor fitted

What to check first

  1. Scope the crank signal while cranking and wiggling the harness
  2. Inspect the connector pins and the sensor tip
  3. Check the reluctor ring for damaged or missing teeth
Can I drive with P0335? Not recommended. P0335 can lead to stalling, limp mode or engine damage; diagnose it before driving further.
