U0001High Speed CAN Communication Bus

What it means

A control module sees a fault on the high-speed CAN bus (wiring, termination or a module disturbing the bus).

Symptoms

  • Several warning lights at once
  • Possibly no start
  • Many lost-communication codes

Common causes

  • CAN-H or CAN-L wire open or shorted
  • Missing termination resistor
  • A faulty module pulling the bus down
  • Water in a connector

What to check first

  1. Measure CAN-H to CAN-L resistance with the battery disconnected (about 60 Ω)
  2. Scope CAN-H and CAN-L
  3. Unplug modules one at a time to find one disturbing the bus
