FuelSeverity High: diagnose before driving on

P0093Fuel System Leak Detected – Large Leak

What it means

Rail pressure drops much faster than the injected quantity explains. The ECU suspects a large fuel leak and usually shuts the engine down. Treat it as a fire risk until proven otherwise.

Symptoms

  • Engine stops and may not restart
  • Strong smell of diesel or petrol
  • Visible fuel leak under the bonnet or car

Common causes

  • Leaking high-pressure pipe, union or rail
  • Injector stuck open or leaking internally
  • Pressure limiting valve open
  • Faulty rail pressure sensor (less often)

What to check first

  1. Do not keep cranking: look for fuel leaks first
  2. Check all high-pressure unions and pipes with the engine running briefly
  3. Run a leak-off test and check the pressure limiting valve return
Can I drive with P0093? Not recommended. P0093 can lead to stalling, limp mode or engine damage; diagnose it before driving further.

Generic OBD-II meaning. Manufacturer-specific meanings and checks can differ; always check the service information for the car.
