FuelSeverity High: diagnose before driving on

P0216Injector/Injection Timing Control Circuit

What it means

On diesels with an electronically controlled injection pump, the ECU sees a fault in the injection timing control (timing solenoid or its feedback).

Symptoms

  • Hard start or no start
  • Knocking, smoke or loss of power
  • Stalling

Common causes

  • Faulty timing solenoid or its wiring
  • Air in the fuel or low supply pressure
  • Worn injection pump
  • Pump control unit fault

What to check first

  1. Check the timing solenoid resistance and wiring
  2. Check the fuel supply for air and restrictions
  3. Compare requested and actual injection timing in live data
Can I drive with P0216? Not recommended. P0216 can lead to stalling, limp mode or engine damage; diagnose it before driving further.
