P0471Exhaust Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance
What it means
The exhaust pressure sensor signal is electrically possible, but it doesn't make sense compared with other sensors or with what the engine is doing. The exhaust pressure sensor measures the exhaust back pressure (on diesels, before the turbo or the DPF).
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Possibly limp mode or poor regeneration
Common causes
- Blocked or split sensor pipe
- Sensor contaminated with soot
- Real exhaust restriction
What to check first
- Key on, engine off: the reading should match atmospheric pressure
- Check the sensor pipe for blockage and cracks
- Compare readings at idle and 3,000 rpm
Generic OBD-II meaning. Manufacturer-specific meanings and checks can differ; always check the service information for the car.
