EmissionsSeverity Medium: diagnose soon

P2463Diesel Particulate Filter Restriction – Soot Accumulation

What it means

The particulate filter holds more soot than the ECU allows. Regeneration has not been completing, often because of short trips or a fault that produces extra soot.

Symptoms

  • Loss of power or limp mode
  • Radiator fan running after switch-off (regeneration)
  • Higher fuel consumption
  • DPF warning light

Common causes

  • Short trips preventing regeneration
  • EGR, injector or boost faults producing excess soot
  • Failed regeneration attempts (sensor or temperature faults)
  • Faulty differential pressure sensor

What to check first

  1. Read estimated soot mass and regeneration history
  2. Check EGR, injector corrections and boost first
  3. Run a forced regeneration only if soot is below the manufacturer's limit
Can I drive with P2463? Usually yes for a short distance, but performance or economy may suffer and the fault can get worse. Diagnose it soon.
Practise it: Clogged particulate filter (diesel) in the engine simulator shows this fault in live data, tests and on the scope.Open in the simulator

Generic OBD-II meaning. Manufacturer-specific meanings and checks can differ; always check the service information for the car.
