P0069Manifold Absolute Pressure – Barometric Pressure Correlation

What it means

With the engine off (or at start-up) the MAP sensor and the barometric pressure reading should be almost the same. They differ by more than allowed.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Sometimes hesitation or poor running
  • On diesels: limp mode

Common causes

  • Faulty MAP or boost pressure sensor
  • Blocked or split sensor hose
  • Faulty barometric sensor (often inside the ECU)
  • Wiring fault on the sensor signal or ground

What to check first

  1. Key on, engine off: compare MAP and baro in live data (should be within about 2–3 kPa)
  2. Check the sensor hose and port for oil or soot
  3. Check the sensor 5 V reference and ground
Can I drive with P0069? Usually yes for a short distance, but performance or economy may suffer and the fault can get worse. Diagnose it soon.

Generic OBD-II meaning. Manufacturer-specific meanings and checks can differ; always check the service information for the car.
