P0103Mass or Volume Air Flow "A" Circuit High
What it means
The MAF signal is higher than the sensor can produce: the ECU sees far more air than possible. Usually the signal is shorted to a voltage or the ground is poor.
Symptoms
- Hesitation or flat spots when accelerating
- Rough idle or stalling
- Higher fuel consumption
- On diesels: limp mode, sometimes black smoke
Common causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Poor sensor ground
- Failed MAF sensor
- Electrical interference from a damaged ignition component
What to check first
- Measure the voltage drop on the sensor ground
- Check the signal with the engine off (should be near zero airflow)
- Inspect the harness routing near coils and leads
