Air intakeSeverity Medium: diagnose soon

P0106Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The MAP sensor signal is electrically possible, but it doesn't make sense compared with other sensors or with what the engine is doing. The MAP sensor measures the pressure (vacuum or boost) in the intake manifold.

Symptoms

  • Rough idle or hesitation
  • Poor fuel economy or black smoke
  • Limp mode on turbo engines

Common causes

  • Split, blocked or disconnected sensor hose
  • Vacuum leak or boost leak
  • Contaminated sensor (oil or soot in the port)
  • Mechanical problem: low compression, restricted exhaust

What to check first

  1. Key on, engine off: MAP should match barometric pressure
  2. At warm idle a healthy petrol engine reads roughly 25–40 kPa
  3. Check the sensor port and hose, then smoke-test the intake
Can I drive with P0106? Usually yes for a short distance, but performance or economy may suffer and the fault can get worse. Diagnose it soon.

Generic OBD-II meaning. Manufacturer-specific meanings and checks can differ; always check the service information for the car.
