P0100Mass or Volume Air Flow "A" Circuit
What it means
The ECU sees an electrical fault in the mass air flow (MAF) sensor circuit. Without a usable MAF signal the ECU falls back to a calculated airflow, so the engine runs but not well.
Symptoms
- Hesitation or flat spots when accelerating
- Rough idle or stalling
- Higher fuel consumption
- On diesels: limp mode, sometimes black smoke
Common causes
- Wiring or connector fault (supply, ground or signal)
- Failed MAF sensor
- Blown fuse or missing 12 V supply to the sensor
What to check first
- Check the MAF supply (often 12 V) and ground with the key on
- Back-probe the signal and compare idle and snap-throttle readings
- Inspect the connector for corrosion
